Fat Grafting

Home/Body Procedures/Fat Grafting

Fat grafting is a surgical cosmetic procedure that uses your body’s own fat to restore lost volume, smooth contours, and enhance features in the most natural way possible. In fact, this advanced technique offers a double benefit: liposuction in one area of the body followed by rejuvenation of another area. Our board-certified plastic surgeons will discuss your goals and areas you wish to enhance or restore and can assess whether fat grafting is suitable for you or if alternative procedures may be better.

What Does the Fat Grafting Procedure Involve?

During the fat grafting procedure, liposuction is used to remove fat from areas such as the abdomen, thighs, or flanks using a gentle technique to preserve fat cell integrity. Harvested fat is purified to separate healthy fat cells from fluids and debris. The processed fat is injected into the target area in small, precise amounts for natural contouring.

Fat Grafting Applications

Breast fat grafting can achieve modest breast augmentation with a natural look and feel while avoiding the use of an implant. It can also be performed for correction of asymmetry or contour irregularities in cosmetic surgery or reconstruction after cancer surgery.

Buttock fat grafting can be used to enhance buttock size and shape and to create a rounder, fuller, and more lifted appearance while having the dual benefit of fat removal from other problem areas. This procedure is commonly known as the Brazilian butt lift.

Facial fat grafting can be used to restore volume lost due to aging and to improve areas such as the cheeks, under-eye hollows, lips, or jawline. This provides a natural long-lasting result and can be combined with a facelift.

What Can I Expect During Fat Grafting Recovery?

The recovery process will depend on the specific areas treated; however, in general, patients should expect temporary swelling, bruising, and discomfort following treatment. In addition, patients may need more than one procedure to reach desired results as not all of the fat will survive upon transfer. Our plastic surgery team will provide detailed post-operative instructions and guidelines to help you achieve the smoothest, most efficient recovery possible.
